Get off your trolley

The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft, Lincolnshire is the home to the world’s largest collection of preserved trolleybuses. While opening dates are limited, visitors looking for a touch of colour, nostalgia, and – most of all – something entirely different, can enjoy a 1940s Weekend event on 19 – 21 April. Featuring re-enactors, displays of vintage vehicles, trolleybus rides and vintage motorbus tours, adult tickets cost £14.50.

The Toys Strike Back

Travel warp speed to a centenary city for an exhibition showcasing one of the UK’s largest collections of vintage Star Wars toys and collectables. The Toys Strike Back features action figures and ships, including the legendary Millennium Falcon, along with mannequin displays including Darth Vader and Jedi master Yoda. It’s at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Stoke-on-Trent – which marks 100 years of city status in 2025 – until 1 June, with tickets costing £6 for adults and £4 children

‘Whale Hello There!’

Hull’s award-winning aquarium, The Deep, is offering a chance to dive into the world of marine mammals this spring. New event Whale Hello There!, running until 21 April, explores native marine mammals through a mixture of games and activities. As well as daily talks and a blue whale mural, there will also be hands-on activity stations with marine-themed prizes. Included within a standard admission: £23 for adults and £17 for Children (aged 3 to 15).

Loving lambs

It’s lambing time at Sledmere House and Gardens, East Yorkshire’s finest country house, from 12- 20 April when visitors can meet newborn lambs and even get a chance to give them a bottle. Footage will also be displayed from the main lambing sheds while the Farm team offer insights into what happens during this busy Spring period. Usual Parkland, Gardens and Farm Park admission applies (£16 adults and £8 children)

Spring Steam Gala of firsts

Hampshire’s Watercress Line is staging a ‘steam-packed’ Spring Steam Gala, 25 – 27 April, offering the chance to see and ride behind special guest engines as well as the heritage railway’s home-fleet locomotives. Joining national celebrations as part of Railway 200, this ‘gala of firsts’ showcases a variety of railway scenes from yesterday, demonstrating how the railway would have operated in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s. Tickets from £35 adults and £18.50 for children (5-16 years), booked in advance.

A cascade of colours

The annual Tulip Festival at East Yorkshire’s Burnby Hall Gardens is always a popular event and provides a colourful and vibrant beginning to its new season. From 26 April, visitors can expect a cascade of colours throughout the Gardens, with several thousand tulips formally displayed in tubs and the main flower beds across the site. Included with normal admission (from £8.50 adults and £6 children, aged 5 – 15 years.

Art in the barn

The Lincolnshire Artists’ Society returns to Doddington Hall & Gardens at Easter for an Art Exhibition in the Stable Yard Gallery. Visitors can view a wide range of work from some of Lincolnshire’s most talented artists with almost every piece in the exhibition for sale. Running from 18 April until 4 May, entry is free to the gallery.

Dinosaurs Live!

For the first time since 1881, the home of dinosaurs, London’s Natural History Museum, is going on tour – and Hull City Hall will be the venue for the roaring experience on 17 April. Visitors will go on a pre-historic journey together to the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods and watch the life-like dinosaurs come alive on stage at Dinosaurs Live! with tickets costing from £15 per person.

A rare chance to visit Burghley’s South Gardens

Only open for a handful of weeks each year, Burghley House’s South Gardens is revealing a magnificent seasonal display of spring flowers to visitors until 21 April. Created by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the 18th century, the Gardens – featuring colourful floral displays and pristine lawns – open each spring to raise funds for local charity, Evergreen Care Trust. Included with normal admission (from £10 adults and £8 children).
