Halloween hoots

From scary surprises, spooky settings and good old-fashioned family fun, there are plenty of Halloween hoots to enjoy this October – along with ever-popular pick your own pumpkin top spots. Fair’s Fair in Hull

World-famous Hull Fair is heading back to the city with hundreds of rides and attractions. The annual event, which is more than 700 years old, is one of the largest travelling fairs in Europe. Staged 10 -18 October, new rides for 2025 include what is being billed as the UK’s tallest ride, the Big Ben Tower – which is 280ft high – and Skyfall Drop Tower.

Monster movie mania for set jetters

One of Netflix’s most highly anticipated movies will be screened in cinemas this month before streaming globally. Scenes were shot at Lincolnshire’s Burghley House for Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which will show in select cinemas 17 October before launching on Netflix from 7 November. Burghley House is open until 2 November, whilst the parkland remains open, and free to enter, throughout the year.

Wander Trick or Treat Street 

William’s Den, in East Yorkshire, is bringing back its immersive Trick or Treat Street event from 25 to 30 October 2025. Part interactive theatre, part trick-or-treating, this one-of-a-kind Halloween adventure invites families to journey down Trick or Treat Street to solve a murder mystery in the fictional village of Denville. Detectives can enjoy live performances from colourful characters in their unique houses with special effects, collect sweets and piece together clues to solve ‘who dunnit?’ Prices start from £7.20.

Sizzling news of a banger event

Celebrating the county’s most iconic export, the grounds of Lincoln Castle will be filled with stalls on 11 October as visitors savour the taste of Lincolnshire. One of the region’s most popular foodie events, the Lincoln Sausage Festivalfeatures live cooking demonstrations and entertainment – including the return of Mr & Mrs Sausage. Admission to the grounds costs £2.50 for adults with free entry for children under 16.

An Incognito face-to-face with Cosey Fanni Tutti

An influential performance artist, musician and writer opens her latest exhibition in Hull this month. Cosey Fanni Tutti is best known for her time in Throbbing Gristle, a band which formed in Hull in the 1970s and was regarded as the founders of the industrial music genre. Incognito, an exhibition at Humber Street Gallery, will display film, vinyl and costumes from Tutti’s personal archive, many on show for the first time (3 October – 25 January).

Spooky Sledmere’s seasonal school half-term

October half term will be marked at Sledmere House in East Yorkshire by bird of prey displays, a Halloween trail and other seasonal activities. The Owl Adventures display will be based under shelter in the Barn – where visitors will also be able to get up close to some of the majestic creatures – the Halloween Trail will lead down to the Walled Garden and a petrifying pumpkin hunt.

A monstrous invasion

Visitors to Lincolnshire during the October half term can cast their eyes to the sky to catch a glimpse of gigantic monsters. The Lincoln Monster Invasion, from 25 October to 1 November, will see eight gigantic inflatable monsters invade rooftops from Castle Hill, down to the University of Lincoln. As night falls, the monsters will light up, offering a spooky glow-in-the-dark adventure trail around Lincoln city centre.

A classic evening at Burghley

Burghley House’s grand oak-panelled Great Hall will come alive with an evening of Baroque music this month. Spanning from 1600 to 1750, the Baroque period saw the birth of the orchestra and the emergence of opera and the concerto. Some of the period’s most striking works, including from Purcell, Handel and Vivaldi, will be performed live at the event on 18 October. Tickets cost £45 per person, including a glass of wine or sparkling elderflower.

Experience Movie Magic

The Stamford International Film Festival makes its highly anticipated debut on 25 October 2025, set across the iconic George of Stamford (Business Centre) and Stamford School (Ancaster Room & The Great Hall at St. Martin’s) in Lincolnshire. It features a bold, curated programme of international short films. Tickets cost £35 plus booking fee.
