Great Pottery Throw Down pieces on display
Eye-catching ceramics crafted by the potters in episode seven of Channel Four’s The Great Pottery Throw Down (Sunday, 16 February) are now on display at the historic Gladstone Pottery Museum in Stoke-on-Trent. The museum, which threw open its doors early this year as part of Stoke-on-Trent’s centenary celebrations, unveiled the special exhibition on Wednesday, 5 March. To mark the city’s 100th anniversary, The Great Pottery Throw Down challenged the potters to design and create bird baths that honour the six towns of Stoke-on-Trent.
Shining a light on science and creativity in Hull
Hull city centre will become a hub of science, creativity and innovation next month as it hosts a new festival, Colliderfest, (13 – 16 March 2025), which will feature a weekend of activities for visitors. The full programme, just revealed, includes a headline show on the Saturday from children’s presenter, author and scientist, Maddie Moate, while Colliderfest After Dark on the Friday and Saturday evenings will see a spectacular evening light trail.
A rare chance to visit Burghley’s South Gardens
Only open for a handful of weeks each year, Burghley House’s South Gardens will reveal a magnificent seasonal display of spring flowers to visitors from 15 March until 21 April. Created by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the 18th century, the Gardens – featuring colourful floral displays and pristine lawns – open each spring to raise funds for local charity, Evergreen Care Trust. Included with normal admission (from £10 adults and £8 children).
And a bulb bonanza at Doddington
Lincolnshire’s Doddington Hall and Gardens’ continuing Bulb Pageant offers a spring spectacle for visitors in March, with crocuses taking the lead with Lent lilies and wood anemones scilla and dog’s tooth violets emerging. Al;ways popular are Doddington’s collection of heritage daffodils. Included with gardens only ticket (£9.50 adults, £4.50 children and £22 for a family).
Let battle commence, in the Great Hall of Tamworth Castle
Tamworth Wargames Club will be staging a day of tabletop battle tactics and wits, all played out against the backdrop of the magnificent medieval Great Hall at Tamworth Castle on Sunday 16 March, between 11am and 3pm. Included with general admission to the Castle, the session will feature hundreds of miniature figures on a tabletop terrain.
