Adding extra sparkle to Hampshire

Summer is set to sparkle again with the return of Fizz Fest, from Vineyards of Hampshire. This year Raimes Wine Barn and Vineyard is the venue on 29 June for the 11th edition of the flagship event showcasing Hampshire’s premier vineyards. It will feature over 20 premium sparkling and still wines, all of which will be available to taste. Tickets are priced £35 per person.

High octane vintage beach motoring…

Back again for 2025, and set to be bigger than ever, Race the Waves returns to Bridlington. A throwback to the days when Yorkshire’s beaches were used for land speed record attempts, the annual vintage vehicle spectacle has become one of the region’s biggest events. Free to attend, Race the Waves attracts big crowds to watch vintage vehicles and motorbikes as they race along the resort’s South Beach. From 12 to 15 June.

… with a Steampunk bonus

The Spa will also be hosting the WSW Steampunk Emporium over the same weekend as Race the Waves, open from 10am to 4pm on the Saturday and Sunday. The family-friendly festival will take place in the Royal Hall, and feature entertainment, presentations, workshops, authors and stalls selling Steampunk accessories. Admission is free.

It’s SO cool on the Lincolnshire coast

Taking place on the pavements, parks and promenades of the Lincolnshire Coast, the annual SO Festival returns this month featuring theatre, puppetry, dance, comedy, music, acrobatics and immersive installations. Launching from 9 June, the main events will be staged in Skegness on 13 and 14 June, and in Mablethorpe on Sunday 15 June. All performances and workshops are free, but some must be booked in advance.

Sniff out a lavender laced summer treat

Hampshire’s famous Lavender Fields welcomes visitors for the new season this month. Set in countryside just outside the market town of Alton, lavender was first farmed here in 1999, and the Fields have opened annually since 2001. From 16 June visitors will again be able to stroll rows of vibrant lavender, while the on-site café and a gift shop, which are both open now, feature a wide range of products, all made using the farm’s own lavender.

All that jazz in Staffordshire’s cathedral city

Lichfield Arts Jazz and Blues Festival is back this month. The Lichfield Arts event runs from 12 to 15 June at venues across Staffordshire’s cathedral city. It will feature “unforgettable performances, a vibrant atmosphere and the best in live jazz and blues”. Tickets can be booked for individual shows or the full weekend.

Experience summer in the South Gardens at Burghley

Visitors to Burghley House and Gardens will have a rare chance to see the normally private South Gardens in all their summer glory. Only open for a handful of weeks each year, the 28-acre Gardens – home to an extensive collection of roses, colourful herbaceous borders and wildflowers – will be open from 30 June until 6 July. Entry is included with normal admission (from £10 adults and £8 children).

A right royal Father’s Day in Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire’s Grimsthorpe Castle was presented as a wedding gift by King Henry VIII to Lord Willoughby de Eresby in 1516 and has remained in the family ever since. Now Henry returns for a royal visit this Father’s Day. Young King Henry VIII, on Sunday 15 June, offers visitors the chance to walk the grounds and meet Henry VIII – and maybe Queen Catherine of Aragon or Anne Boleyn. Included with normal admission (from £10 for adults and £6 for children, 5-16 years).

All that Malarkey in Hull

Hull’s popular children’s festival, The Big Malarkey Festival, returns to the city’s East Park for a family friendly festival weekend on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June 2025. Featuring a host of authors, dancers, illustrators, actors and musicians, this year’s theme is ‘What If…?’ and celebrates stories, animals, discoveries, scientists and much more! Tickets from £3.50 children and £6.50 adults.
