Oh no it isn’t…

Oh yes, it is… panto season is still with us. While many performances ended in December, audiences can still catch this traditional seasonal family treat at a few places into January. In East Yorkshire it’s a real knockout for Bridlington Spa’s Dick Whittington starring former boxing champion Tommy Coyle, while at Lincoln’s New Theatre Royal, Robin Hood takes to the stage, with both shows running until 4 January.

Donkey Tales

Bransby Horses is an equine rescue and welfare charity based just a few miles north of Lincoln, which has been rescuing, rehabilitating, rehoming and providing sanctuary care for equines in need since 1968. Led by a member of the Bransby Horses team, themed talks offer an insight into the animals, from how they bond to why their ears are so big. The next talks will take place on 7 and 21 January,11am – 12pm. Free entry, but donations welcome.

Two heads are better than one for a coastal impression

East Yorkshire’s Burton Constable Hall is hosting ‘Portrait of Two Heads’ a photographic exhibition by Steve Morantz featuring the distinctive landscapes of Flamborough Head and Spurn Head. The collection of digital images, especially created for Burton Constable’s Stables Gallery, runs until 31 January and is free to visit.

New artworks for Hull gallery

Two newly acquired artworks have gone on display at the Ferens Art Gallery in Hull. The contemporary artworks appeared in the ‘Sirens: Women and the Sea’ exhibition earlier this year but will now be on permanent display. ‘Drift Ice’ by Emma Stibbon RA, and ‘Madame La Sirene’ by Abe Odedina, can be seen in gallery nine of the Ferens.

Discover Bempton Cliffs in Winter

While RSPB Bempton Cliffs in East Yorkshire really comes alive in spring and summer, becoming a ‘Seabird City’ thanks to its nesting seabirds, there’s plenty to see in winter too. Visitors can join an expert leader for a two-hour guided walk to discover more about the winter wildlife at this spectacular coastal clifftop reserve on16 January. Tickets cost £6 – £13.
