Birthday Ball launches Jane Austen celebrations

This year is a big one for Jane Austen fans worldwide – and Hampshire is set to make an early start marking the 250th birthday of the world-famous author. Throughout the year events and commemorations are planned across the county where Austen lived and wrote all her novels, and launching the year in style will be the Jane Austen Birthday Ball on Saturday 18 January at Alton Assembly Rooms, with tickets costing £70 per person. But more is planned for the Ball Weekend in Alton, a town where the author often visited and shopped, including tours and cream teas on the Saturday and a film show and choral evensong on the Sunday.

Painting a picture of past and present in The Potteries

For over 90 years The Society of Staffordshire Artist Members have been creating and exhibiting some of the finest artwork in the region with many having exhibited at major galleries locally, nationally and internationally. Now a Stoke Past & Present exhibition has been assembled to celebrate the 100 Years of Stoke-on-Trent as a city and as a centre for artistic creativity. It runs until 23 February and admission is free.

Viva La Rave!

One of the travel trends predicted for 2025 is “Dry Tripping”. So, for clubbers, dance enthusiasts, and anyone “sober-curious”, Lincoln’s newest sober-dance clubbing event on 11 January might well hit the spot. The Southside venue, located in the former St Katherine’s Church, will host Viva La Rave!, which will take partygoers on a journey through house, rave, funky techno, DnB, and more, curated by four DJs. Tickets cost £11.55 each.
