It’s ‘snow white’ in 2025…
February sees the start of snowdrop season, and experts say this could be a bumper year for one of the highlights of the gardening calendar for many. Thanks to a relatively mild winter, the banks of snowdrops could be better than ever. For a fix of the white stuff, check out a few suggestions for top snowdrop spotting here.
Birthday celebrations underway at Jane’s house
Hampshire’s big year of celebrations is already underway as the county where world famous author Jane Austen was born, lived and died, marks her 250th birthday. Jane Austen’s House, where she wrote and published all her novels, has a host of events and exhibitions, including Waking Up The House on 21 February, an exclusive, early-morning tour and a candlelit guided tour on 28 February. Each tour costs £25 per person and must be booked.
Lincoln lights up
A brand-new event for 2025, Lincoln Lights aims to transform the city with a free showcase of mesmerising light installations. Running for two nights on 20 and 21 of February, Lincoln’s historic streets and landmarks will come alive with installations, projections and light-based artwork between 5:30 and 9:30pm each day.
Take Time at historic Minster
East Yorkshire’s Beverley Minster is set to host a breathtaking spectacle with Time, an innovative light and sound show created by the acclaimed artistic collaboration Luxmuralis. Being staged 25 February until 1 March the event will transform the interior of the historic minster, filling it with light, and soundscapes
An outdoor trail with a difference
This half term, Staffordshire’s National Memorial Arboretum is hosting everything from arts and crafts and interactive storytelling sessions to outdoor trails in its spring woodland. During free arts and crafts sessions (17 – 21 February) families can create animals from provided materials, or their own purple poppies – a symbol of Remembrance for animals that have died in service – to wear around the Animals in Remembrance Outdoor Trail. It features mascots, mythical creatures and stories of animals that served in the Armed Forces. Trail sheets cost £2.50 per person.
Maritime tours return
Hull’s celebrated maritime guided tours return for the 2025 season on Saturday 15 February. A team of 17 White Badge accredited volunteers will once again lead free guided tours that explore Hull’s rich maritime heritage where visitors can discover 800 years of maritime heritage through the buildings, stories and people of the city. The tours will run every Thursday and Saturday at 10.30am, with an additional Sunday morning walk at 11.30am and Sunday afternoon tour at 1.30pm. Must be pre-booked.
Circus, magic and carnival capers
The Trentham Estate will be laying on the carnival spirit this month, as Gandeys Carnival Spectacular sets up at the popular visitor attraction on the edge of Stoke-on-Trent. Promising an electrifying fusion of circus, magic and the vibrant energy of a world-class carnival, including dazzling Ringmaster Joel Hatton, and the return of the comedic genius, Bippo The Clown (14 February – 2 March 2025).
Boston Brilliance
Key landmarks in Boston, Lincolnshire, are set to be illuminated as part of a celebration of the town’s history and its links with its namesake in the United States. The free event on 15 and 16 February will feature an immersive light show created by The Projection Studio, whose previous work includes displays at Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee and the Qatar World Cup. Among buildings involved will be St Botolph’s Church, known as the Boston Stump.
Taka a Stafford stroll
Take a gentle stroll around Stafford with our knowledgeable guide to see the town in a new light as monthly Stafford Heritage Trail tours get underway on Wednesday 18 February 2025. Discover more about the secrets of the buildings and hear about colourful characters from the past. The tour costs £5.65 per person.
