Summer has never sounded so good at England’s greatest Elizabethan house, with a chance to party the night away to a heady blend of Balearic beats at Classic Ibiza or enjoy one of the country’s most exciting Proms concerts, complete with Spitfire fly-past, historic cavalry displays, fireworks and live-firing canons.
From a party in the park “with a difference” at the dramatic Battle Proms Concert, to an open-air celebration of White Isle-inspired house music at Classic Ibiza, Lincolnshire’s Burghley House is set to be the place to experience stately music this summer.
Back at Burghley for the 17th time, the annual Battle Proms Picnic Concert leads the musical line-up with an afternoon of sublime music and dramatic displays on Saturday 9 July.
Staged in the Capability Brown designed parkland overlooking the grand Elizabethan architecture of Burghley House, it features a two-hour classical concert from the New English Concert Orchestra, before ending with a traditional ‘last night of the Proms’ flag-waving sing-along.
A highlight of the summer social calendar, this Proms party has become a firm favourite with fans thanks to a host of extras in addition to the traditional rousing music. Along with a warm-up act, the event will also include thrilling historic cavalry displays, a meticulously choreographed aerial display from a WWII Spitfire, live firing cannons and spectacular fireworks.
The Battle Proms is believed to be the only opportunity in the world to see the signature piece – Beethoven’s ‘Battle Symphony’ – performed as he composed it: with 193 live Napoleonic cannons providing a thunderous percussion. Tickets cost £47 for adults, and £21 children (5 to 15 years).
For those who prefer their music a little more modern, Classic Ibiza returns to Burghley’s parkland with house music, live vocalists, and headline DJs for a night of dance music’s most iconic tracks on Saturday 30 July.
With Burghley House as the backdrop, thousands are expected to enjoy Classic Ibiza anthems under the stars in this family friendly concert as the Urban Soul Orchestra, DJ Goldierocks and a host of critically acclaimed vocalists bring Balearic beats to life at Burghley.
Launching with a chill-out set, when visitors can enjoy picnics and a drink or dance along as the sun fades, the night hots up as DJ Goldierocks turns things up in the interval before the Urban Soul Orchestra and vocalists return to the stage. One classic dance track will follow another in an alfresco musical celebration, with accompanying lasers. Tickets cost £45 adults, £20 children (5 to 17 years), under-fives free.
