Paws on the Doors

Hull and East Yorkshire is making it even easier for dog-owners to discover pooch-friendly attractions, accommodation and places to eat, thanks to a new ‘Paws on the Doors’ initiative.

New online guides to dog-friendly venues have been launched on Visit Hull and Visit East Yorkshire’s respective websites, and now distinctive ‘Dogs Welcome’ window stickers will soon be appearing across the region.

Venues signing up to the scheme span cafes, pubs, shops and places to stay, and not only do they offer a warm welcome but also practical support, such as providing water bowls, dog treats, and cozy resting spots.

The new scheme launched by Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY) aims to capitalise on the growing trend of holidaying with pets – and give dog lovers an easy to recognise sign that their canine companions are welcome too.

According to recent findings provided by JustHooit.com, 23 million UK households – over 40 per cent of the population – are pet owners, with dogs the most favoured.

And 67 per cent of those surveyed planned their breaks around their pets, emphasising the role they play in shaping travel plans.

This new campaign also offers top tips on where to walk dogs, including spectacular coastal walks and countryside treks across the picturesque Yorkshire Wolds.

For city breaks, among Hull’s suggested trails is a leisurely stroll around Hull Marina and the waterfront, as well as wandering along winding pathways at Pearson Park, which also features ornamental gardens and water features.

The campaign will also be promoted on VHEY’s social media platforms.
