New for 2026… Walking the Wolds with your four-legged friend

Fresh from its ‘Paws on the Doors’ initiative making it even easier for dog-owners to discover pooch-friendly attractions and accommodation, East Yorkshire is offering pet owners a new way to discover the destination in 2026.

‘Walking the Wolds… with Bill & Mrs M’ already organises and promotes dog-friendly Yorkshire Wolds walks, but from spring 2026 it will also be offering short break holidays.

Sarah Maltby, better known as Mrs M, and her one-eyed fox-red retriever, Bill, started walking to boost her health and wellbeing, which then grew to hosting a special club and a website detailing dog-friendly walks, handy hints and even homemade dog treat recipes.

Now she aims to offer even more in 2026, with four breaks: Spring Strolls in April; Summer Saunters (June); and Autumn Ambles in September; with the final one, Winter Wanders, taking place in February 2027.

Featuring accommodation in luxury holiday cottages for owners and their four-legged friends, the new breaks also include guided walks with refreshment stops at independent pubs, tearooms and coffee shops, plus transport from the start and finish of walks.

And while the cottages provide fully equipped kitchens and dining spaces, the holidays also include a welcome supper and celebratory meal at the end of the break, as well as tea and cake at the end of walks – and a welcome basket with human and doggie treats, too.

Prices start from £419 per person, for four people sharing, to £760 for one person in a one bedroomed cottage. Between two and three dogs are welcome, depending on the accommodation.

Along with three-night stays at Church Farm Cottages – four stylish self-catering cottages in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds – each break will have carefully created walks designed for all abilities and led by Mrs M and Bill.

Walking the Wolds has also won the first-ever Remarkable Dog Welcome Award at the 2025 Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards (REYTAs), run by Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY), for Mrs M’s ‘Star Stuff – Winter Wander’ group walk.

News of the new doggy breaks comes after VHEY last year launched its ‘Paws on the Doors’ initiative featuring online guides to dog-friendly venues and distinctive ‘Dogs Welcome’ window stickers at cafes, pubs, shops and places to stay (www.visiteastyorkshire.co.uk/dog-friendly-east-yorkshire and www.visithull.org/dogs-welcome/).
