A wild camping experience for families is on offer this summer at a dairy farm near Derby -an ‘ice cream getaway’!
Bluebell Dairy has made a name for itself thanks to its award-winning artisan ice cream, made in the same way as the Italians, but with a British twist, and also boasts a popular tearoom, children’s play park and ‘Animal Patch’ meet and feed experience.
Scooping a host of awards, including beating the Italians at ice cream making at The Italian Gelato Festival – and having to buy an extra seat on a flight home for the oversized trophy – the Dairy is now offering camping with a twist.
Featuring a “family only” weekend full of animals, ice cream, home cooked food and activities, it will include one or two nights camping on the farm (tents only), farm cooked breakfast and dinner, fresh milk from the Bluebells herd, ice cream sundae sessions, entry to the farm and animal activities on the farm.
Rural champions, the Brown family, who have been milking their herd of cows at Brunswood Farm since 1953, diversified into ice cream making in 2008, and today make 26 flavours of ice creams and sorbet, served in the farm’s own tearooms and stocked across the region.
Set in countryside just three miles from Derby city centre, Bluebell Dairy has hosted royal visits and served ice cream to then Prime Minister David Cameron – and now launched its ‘Ice Cream Getaways’ camping.
Scheduled to run on selected weekends 28th May – 22nd August 2021, the breaks include 10m x 10m grass pitches for tents to include social distancing from other pitches, ice cream sundae making and a litre of fresh milk to enjoy on site or take home with you.
