A new free immersive guided audio tour of Hull’s music history, voiced by comedian Lucy Beaumont, is bringing 60 years of the city’s sound scene to life in 60 minutes.
Visitors can dip in and out of Hull’s rich music past on a route around the city’s picturesque and historic Old Town, featuring legendary voices including Roland Gift from Fine Young Cannibals) and industrial music pioneer Cosey Fanni Tutti.
Narrated by the Hull born comedian, actor and writer, the Diamond Life audio tour also has interviews with folk legends Eliza Carthy and Martin Carthy, as well as Lou Duffy Howard, bass player in Red Guitars, talking about life in the city.
In addition, it features an archive interview with Hull born Mick Ronson, the guitarist known for working with David Bowie on Ziggy Stardust.
Aimed at showcasing the best of the city – from its architecture and thriving music scene, to the household names that bring the audio walk together – it also supports Hull’s bid to become a future UNESCO City of Music.
Home to bands such as the Housemartins, Hull is still producing new music today, including the three-piece punk band, Wench, while groundbreaking festivals like Humber Street Sesh, champion local musicians and provide a high-profile stage for emerging talent.
A collaboration between Hull City Council, Visit Hull & East Yorkshire (VHEY) and artist collective Mutiny, the new trail encourages listeners to look out for the 10 orange ‘Reveal Hull Way Points’ with bonus content, such as original artwork, depicting historical moments from Hull’s history, all available via a QR code.
And along with the trail, the Reveal Hull website includes the full interviews and biographies with each artist featured in the new guide.
