Lincoln’s Norman gem to sparkle and shine this Christmas

Seasonal surprises this Christmas at one of England’s best preserved Norman castles include a new Ice Palace and giant light up letters as a favourite festive event returns for 2025.

Lincoln Castle Illuminated will again see the imposing stone walls and extensive grounds lit up with around 40,000 lights, while visitors will also be able to take an after-dark stroll along the medieval Wall Walk.

Always popular, the Illuminated Walks offers spectacular night-time views across the city from the battlements – as well as a stunning perspective of the floodlit Lincoln Cathedral.

One of the Castle’s most dramatic features, the stone curtain wall stretches a third of a mile around the building, and the event is the only time it is open to the public after dark.

New for 2025 will be the Ice Palace, along with giant illuminated letters spelling out the city’s name, and an enhanced ‘Christmas Express’ train ride in the Castle grounds taking passengers on a journey through an avenue of lit Christmas trees.

Running 21 November until 23 December 2025, there will also be traditional fairground rides, plus food and drink stalls.

There’s even a chance for dog owners to join in the fun with their four-legged friends, thanks to special dog friendly nights on 26 November and 3, 10 and 17 December.

Tickets for the full Lincoln Castle Illuminated experience – including the Wall Walk – cost £12 adults and £6 children. Grounds only admission costs £3 per person (free admission for under-fives). A range of family ticket options are also available.  With limited capacity, early booking is recommended.
