A major public art project to honour the people who have helped shape Stoke-on-Trent over the past 100 years has been unveiled in a once-in-a-century celebration.
The ‘100 Years, 100 Faces’ artwork – painted on the side of a building on Marsh Street, Hanley – was unveiled during a special weekend of events, 13–14 September 2025.
Commissioned as part of the city’s centenary celebrations by Stoke-on-Trent City Centre BID, it highlights both well-known figures and unsung heroes who have contributed to the city’s story over the past century.
Among the famous faces on the mural are singer Robbie Williams, Bet365-founder Denise Coates, Guns ‘n’ Roses guitarist Slash, strongman Eddie Hall and darts player Phil Taylor.
Created by artists Rob Fenton and Alastair Barnet, it not only spans the last century, but also looks ahead to the next, with the 100 faces aiming to reflect the “talent, resilience, and innovation that defines the city”.
Fitting in with the theme of celebrating old and new, also featured is acclaimed Stoke-on-Trent author Arnold Bennett, one of the most popular English novelists and playwrights of the early 20th century, and Luke Hamnett, a current rising star on social media and television, known for creating the comedic character ‘Matthew’s Mum’.
As well as the mural, a dedicated book highlighting those commemorated plus honourable mentions, is also due to be published.
