Hull’s popular free weekly music event showcasing emerging talent in the home of street food in the city is back for 2025 – and this year it aims to help support a bid to become a UNESCO City of Music.
Now in its sixth year, Trinity Live has become a Hull institution, and this month it launched another season of live music, food, and community spirit within the Old Town’s Trinity Market, which dates to 1904.
As an aspiring world City of Music, shows like Trinity Live are seen as crucial in supporting its future bid, adding to Hull’s already strong musical reputation, including being the home town of musicians like The Housemartins and Mick Ronson, best known as the guitarist with David Bowie’s ‘Spiders from Mars’.
The city also hosts top music festivals, including the award-winning Humber Street Sesh – one of the region’s biggest festivals of independent music – while visitors can also discover more on audio trails linking Hull’s history with its music legends.
Running every Thursday evening from 6 to 9pm until 18 December, Trinity Live event transforms the historic market into a vibrant hub of sound and social energy and provides a stage for some of the area’s up and coming acts as well as established regional artists.
Known as the ’home of street food’ in Hull, Trinity Market has stalls offering food from around the world from Greek and Indian to Chinese and Italian.
And for 2025, a partnership with Hull’s Crown & Cushion will see a new bar space bringing a fresh twist to the market alongside the usual food offer from the resident independent traders.
Based in Trinity House Lane since 2018, offering a retro style interior, the Crown & Cushion is named after one of Hull’s ‘lost’ pubs, which closed in 1927 after a century of pouring pints (www.crownandcushion.net).
Hull and East Yorkshire is also paying tribute to Mick Ronson, ahead of the 80th anniversary of his birth next year, with a colourful new trail has of 45 giant rat sculptures all inspired by his first band, ‘The Rats’ from Hull. Running until 30 August 2025, A Mischief of Rats trail of 6ft artist decorated sculptures pays tribute to Hull musician Mick Ronson, ahead of the 80th anniversary of his birth next year.
