A Fairytale Christmas

Visitors can get into the festive spirit early and journey through ‘A Fairytale Christmas’ at Lincolnshire’s Doddington Hall (8 November – 31 December). From fables to folklore, step into a land of magical fairytales as the displays unfold over three floors of the Elizabethan Hall, which has seen a lot of Christmas mornings over its 400 year-plus history. Spectacular scenes have been created by Doddington staff, volunteers, local artists and students from Lincoln College. Tickets from £16 adults and £8.50 children (4-16 years).

Hull really will be the joke this autumn

Hull Comedy Festival is back this November, bringing three weeks of belly laughs from some of the UK’s biggest names alongside brilliant local talent (1- 23 November). Headliners include Suzi Ruffell with her brand-new show The Juggle, and Phil Nichol with Trying My Best. Josh Jones will bring his upbeat northern charm too, while Tony Law’s surreal fringe set promises something completely different. It’s not just for grown-ups either – Family shows like Jeddy Bear & Gary’s Pie Wars mean there’s plenty for younger audiences too!

A flavour of Christmas cheer in the Yorkshire Wolds

The two-day Christmas Fair at Sledmere House in East Yorkshire is back, with stalls, festive cheer, Christmas inspiration and food and drink. Alongside shopping opportunities, visitors can also take a stroll around the Parkland and Gardens, browse the Farm Shop and visit the Rare Breed Farm Park. Scheduled for 26 and 27 November, admission is £6.25 per person.

Historic castle transforms into a Christmas spectacle

Lincoln Castle’s walls will light-up as part of a Christmas spectacle featuring almost 40,000 lights. Displays will include giant, illuminated letters spelling out the city’s name, Christmas trees, a Christmas Express ride, traditional fairground rides and food and drink stalls. Lincoln Castle Illuminated runs Wednesday to Sunday 21 November – 23 December 2025, with dog-friendly nights on 26 November and 3, 10 and 17 December. Tickets for the full experience, including the Wall Walk, cost £12 adults and £6 children.

A cool Yuletide will be ‘ice’ and easy in Bridlington

A coastal seasonal treat will bring an early festive celebration to East Yorkshire in November as the popular Bridlington Ice Trail returns for 2025. The festive event will be staged over the weekend of 15 and 16 November, turning the resort into one of the country’s coolest seaside destinations. The free trail will see a series of ice sculptures take shape throughout the town, along with live ice carving, plus fire and ice shows twice a day.

Stately seasonal shopping shines brighter at Burghley

Festive drone shows, marshmallow toasting and a new marquee seating area will bring fresh seasonal experiences to the cobbled courtyards and grounds of Burghley House this Christmas. Returning on 27 November, the region’s largest Christmas Fair will feature over 150 stalls selling festive favourites and artisan gifts, plus some brand-new additions. With free parking, tickets cost £12 adults and £5 children (3-15 years), booked in advance.

An Odd tale of Yorkshire’s Atlantis… in Lincolnshire

A touring exhibition exploring a little-known medieval settlement near Hull lost to the sea will arrive in Lincolnshire this week. Ravenser Odd was a short-lived town on an island in the Humber that rose from the sea to become a bustling port, before being abandoned and sinking beneath the waves more than 600 years ago. After being staged in East Yorkshire, the free-entry ‘Ravenser Odd: The Sunken Island of the Humber’ exhibition has arrived at Grimsby Minster, where it will be on display until 14 November (closed 1 and 8 November).

Jazz it up in Hull

Celebrating more than 30 years, Hull Jazz Festival is back in the city 6-15 November with a programme of diverse gigs across the city, including Hull Truck Theatre, Goodfellowship Inn and Polar Bear. Produced by J-Night, one of the leading producers of world jazz in the North of England, this year’s event features Fergus Quill Trio, the Deirdre Cartwright Organik Trio and Mambo Jambo with Joe Martin along with Hull Youth Jazz Orchestra.

“Make it” Lincolnshire…

Visitors to Lincolnshire this autumn will have a chance to meet crafters, makers and artists exhibiting traditional and contemporary skills. Staged at the Lincolnshire Showground on 16 November, the Big Craft Event will also feature free Sit & Stitch sessions alongside demonstrations of leather tooling, flower pressing, jewellery making and drawing and others. Admission is £3.50 per person, with free parking.
