On the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, and dominated by its 13th century Minster, Beverley is already a popular destination with cobbled streets, historic buildings and year-round events.
Visitors have a few options to discover its highlights, including self-guided walking tours, an outdoor art trail, and a Pub Guide, which features one of Britain’s best-preserved time capsules, complete with gas lights and stone-flagged corridors.
Now, a new trail launching this summer offers a chance to soak up not only the sights and sounds of one of England’s most quintessential historic market towns, but its tastes too.
Beverley Bites is first and foremost a history tour, strolling through medieval streets, uncovering more about its buildings and heritage, as well as the town’s Georgian revival.
Making this tour a little different, however, will be a tasty extra… tucking in to local food and drink along the way, giving a flavour of Beverley’s rich history, one bite at a time.
Local guide, Emma Hetherington, will lead groups on a circular walk covering more than 1,000 years of history, following the town’s medieval street pattern, taking in historic hotspots and visiting some popular pubs, as well, of course, as Beverley Minster.
Throughout the tour walkers will get to sample at least seven locally produced foods and drinks.
Set to launch in July, the Saturday tours will start at St Mary’s Court, a Grade II listed building, with fresh French croissants, while everyone will also receive a small lunch bag with a packet of locally produced crisps, a town map, and some food and drink discount vouchers.
Other foodie pit stops along the way will feature homemade pies, a sip of locally made gin or rum, tasty vegan sliders, best bitter and indulgent chocolate truffles.
The tour costs £50 per person.
