Make a date for a drive-in movie

There’s a growing trend for Drive-In movies sweeping the country.  Here’s a round-up of some of them…

Enjoy some big-screen movies on a drive-in experience

Drive in Films is bringing big movie entertainment, on a giant screen, to Mickleover Sports Club, near Derby. To help keep staff and customers safe, everyone must stay in or close-to their vehicles, except for ‘comfort breaks’. The booking process includes all elements of a drive-in night, by also having pre-ordered refreshments and free delivery to your car door. Movies include Joker, July 24; Grease, July 30; Rocketman, July 31; and Forest Gump. August 13.

Hampshire’s in the picture

Movie fans will be able to enjoy the iconic American experience between September 24 and 27 when Suzuki’s @TheDriveIn arrives in Southampton for six shows ranging from family friendly afternoons to late night blockbusters. Cars will be parked two-metres apart for social distancing and a food-delivery app will offer snacks and drinks. Tickets from £38.50 per car.

Outdoor cinema, with street food

Outdoor cinema is returning to Staffordshire as a drive-in movie festival prepares to launch at Sandon Hall, near Stafford. Movie buffs will be able to enjoy a varied programme of film, live music and entertainment, as well as snack on street food during the 10-week long festival, which launches on July 3. The Great British Drive-In Festival can accommodate up to 165 cars per screening, in front of a huge, 100 sqm LED Screen, with sound pumped into their car radios via an FM transmitter

Hull of a time at the movies…

Adventure Drive-In is coming to Hull’s Craven Park July 14-16, 2020, with ‘contact free and socially distanced’ movie screenings – and in-car dance parties thrown in for good measure! Dirty Dancing, Joker and The Lion King are among movies, with customers asked to remain in their cars and bring their own refreshments, as none will be sold on site. Moviegoers can also tune into club classics or 80s and 90s anthems. Tickets must be pre-booked.

Or, enjoy the drive-in sounds of summer

Rather see a live show? How about a drive-in concert featuring some of the biggest names in UK music, all enjoyed from your very own viewing zone? Lincolnshire Showground is one of 12 venues to feature the new Utilita Live From The Drive-In, which has reimagined the concert experience during social distancing by allowing fans to enjoy gigs in a one-of-a-kind drive-in setting from their own private individual viewing zones next to their cars

And “for your future entertainment”…

The Luna Cinema is the country’s leading open air cinema, but for 2020 it’s all about social distancing in your car, so Luna has launched a new drive-in cinema experience. So far, it has confirmed seven venues – including London, Warwick Castle, Blenheim Palace, Harewood House and Knebworth House – but more are due to be announced soon. Among its open-air cinemas last year were at the National Memorial Arboretum, Staffordshire, and Lincoln Castle. Keep an eye on
