Let’s go fly a kite…at the Bridlington Kite Festival

Some of the world’s largest inflatable kites will take to the skies above the dramatic cliffs of the East Yorkshire coast in May for the second annual Bridlington Kite Festival.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, kites of all descriptions, sizes and colours will be back in the air for two days of aerial displays over Sewerby Fields.

From flying frogs to sky-high snakes and leaping lizards to daredevil dragons, scores of exotic inflatables will add a splash of colour to the cliff tops above the popular seaside resort of Bridlington.

Hundreds of spectators gathered to see the 2016’s Festival, and once again this year a number of internationally renowned experts will be back to provide spectacular displays for the crowds over the weekend of Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 May 2017.

But as well as professional demonstrations and teams of two and four line kite flyers performing sequences to music, visitors – particularly children – will have their own chance to have a go with kites available for loan during supervised sessions within the event arena.

And there will be even more high-rise thrills for youngsters – with children encouraged to bring their favourite soft toy for a parachute jump! Every teddy will be given a parachute and hoisted up a rig before gently floating down from a great height, with the owner presented with a certificate to reward them for their bravery.

The Kite Festival, which is subject to reasonable wind and weather conditions, will be free to spectate and open 10am – 5pm both days.

Sponsored by the Bridlington Tourism Association (BTA), the event is hosted by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Northern Kite Group.
