Kites set to soar once more above East Yorkshire in 2021

East Yorkshire’s dramatic coastal cliffs are set to play host to some of the world’s largest inflatable kites when the annual Bridlington Kite Festival returns for 2021.

Last year the event was cancelled, and replaced with a highly successful virtual festival, but organisers have revealed that this year’s Festival will go ahead – in September, instead of May.

Rescheduled for one year only, the weekend Kite Festival will return in in its usual format on Saturday, 11 and Sunday, 12 September 2021, following the announcement of the Government road map out of lockdown.

Kites of all descriptions, sizes and colours will take to the air for two days of aerial displays over Sewerby Fields, above the popular seaside resort of Bridlington.

Previous years have seen everything from flying frogs to sky-high snakes and leaping lizards to daredevil dragons.

Organised by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s events team, along with the Northern Kite Group, the Festival will run from 10am to 5pm on both days, and is free to attend.

The event will return in May 2022 as usual.
