Derby hosts its 40th Summer Beer Festival

The 40th Derby CAMRA City Charter Summer Beer Festival will be staged from July 5 to 9 in Derby city centre.

Showcasing more than 300 real ales including milds, porters, stouts, pale ales, bitters and lagers from Derbyshire and beyond, the event will also feature a vast array of ciders, perries, meads and continental ales.

Live music and entertainment will take place during every session, and food stalls to complement the beer will also be available.

Of all cities and towns in Britain hosting beer festivals this summer, Derby offers a very special brew.

The Festival itself will include several ales that are brewed in Derby’s very own micro-breweries – all set against the backdrop of a city that boasts a “perfect Pub Crawl” around some 120-plus real ale pubs.

While British pubs are currently said to be closing at the rate of around 27 per week, Derby appears to be at the forefront of a real ale revival – and can boast the largest number of real ales per head of population, several micro-breweries, two annual Beer Festivals, Britain’s first and only Beer King, and an accolade from Lonely Planet magazine, describing the city as the “best place to drink real ale in the world”.

Admission prices to the Festival vary, depending on days and session times, and range from £3 to £6. And advance tickets for each evening are now on sale.
