Bridlington Kite Festival still flying high after a decade

East Yorkshire’s dramatic clifftops are set to host the 10th anniversary Bridlington Kite Festival this May featuring some of Europe’s top flyers – and the world’s largest teddy bear inflatable.

Kites of all descriptions, sizes and colours will be back in the air for two days of aerial displays over Sewerby Fields, adding a splash of colour to the coastline above the popular seaside resort of Bridlington.

Celebrating a decade of success – having grown to become one of the most popular annual events on the East Yorkshire coast – the free two-day festival returns on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 May 2025.

Previous years have seen everything from flying frogs to sky-high snakes and leaping lizards, not to mention a giant crocodile, while the event also attracts internationally renowned experts who provide spectacular aerial displays.

This year’s highlights include a top team from Ireland, as well as some of the world’s largest kites – including Oscar, believed to be the biggest teddy bear inflatable, measuring an impressive 63 feet long.

Along with the professional demonstrations, visitors can also go fly a kite themselves at have-a-go supervised sessions, plus youngsters can bring along their favourite soft toy for popular ‘parachuting teddy bear drops’.

There will also be food, drink and charity stalls, fairground rides and children’s entertainment.

Organised by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Visit East Yorkshire events team, along with the Northern Kite Group, the Festival will run from 10am to 5pm on both days.

For those who love a fun fact, the event’s website has plenty of information to get visitors in the mood for the festival, including that the fastest recorded speed of a kite is over 120 mph, and that people were flying them 1,000 years before paper was invented.
